The Advanced Electrical team carried out a full and thorough inspection process (with audit trail) to confirm that all of Everbuild’s installations are DSEAR/ATEX compliant and fit for continued use. Ultimately AES assisted Everbuild with its programme of ongoing continuous improvement.
Challenges
Everbuild stores and processes many hazardous chemicals onsite, including liquids, gases and vapours, which have the potential to create explosive environments. To ensure that its workers, visitors, processes and plant are safe, it is important that the site and plant is periodically checked for both safety and ATEX compliance. To this end, Everbuild requires contractors with CompEx-certified staff to inspect and test the electrical equipment onsite, to make sure that the selection and maintenance of this equipment conforms to current DSEAR/ATEX regulations.
Solution
AES has a long, ongoing relationship with Everbuild, having previously worked on many projects for the company, including completing a recent cooling tank installation and installing a bulk powder transfer system. With several AES engineers now accredited with CompEx certification to work on electrical installations in Potentially Explosive Environments, the company was able to carry out the onsite inspection and testing of electrical equipment to make sure it conforms to current standards. This included working out of hours to reduce the impact on Everbuild’s production output; also at this time hazardous gases and vapours would be minimal. This allowed AES to go in, with the use of a gas detection meter to ensure the work area was within safe working limits, and carry out the works swiftly and in a safe manner.
